Future-proof area development
Smals develops rural areas in a way that seamlessly connects nature, quality of life and economic value. We combine the extraction of construction materials with societal challenges such as nature enhancement, recreation, energy generation, water quality, water safety and water retention.
Demand for sand and gravel continues to grow due to the need for new housing, improved infrastructure and safe dikes. Suitable sand is not available everywhere, and short supply lines help minimise emissions and construction costs. We ensure that these essential materials are made available in a responsible, transparent and environmentally conscious manner, so that public authorities and construction partners can rely on a dependable supply both now and in the future.
Area development is a careful, multi-year process. From vision and permitting to execution and landscape redevelopment, Smals works closely with municipalities, water authorities, provinces, local residents and interest groups. In this way, we gradually transform development locations into new living, nature and recreation areas, while at the same time providing the construction materials that the Netherlands will continue to need.
