Fill Sand

Fill sand is used for embankments, top-ups, and foundations in road construction, the development of building sites, and for filling ponds and ditches. It is a fine, unscreened sand that compacts well, creating a stable subsoil with high load-bearing capacity for roads or building foundations.

Bedding Sand

Sand used for the bedding layer (foundation layer) of (road) pavements.

Drainage Sand

Drainage sand is a coarse, natural sand with excellent water-permeable properties. Its coarse structure allows water to flow freely through the drainage layer.

Paving Sand

Paving sand is suitable for use under various types of paving. An important requirement is that the sand can be easily raked and levelled.

Asphalt Sand

Asphalt sand has a specific grain composition for producing asphalt mixtures, with precise percentages of 2 mm, 0.5 mm, 0.180 mm, and 0.063 mm grains.

Concrete Sand

Concrete sand is used for making concrete, both for ready-mix concrete and concrete products.

Jointing Sand

•

Jointing sand is primarily used for filling the joints of brickwork and for bedding or smoothing various types of tiles.

Masonry Sand

Masonry sand is used for making mortar and is sometimes used in finer concrete mortars.

Flooring Sand

Flooring sand is a coarse sand type used in screed floors and cement finishing layers.

Innovative R&D

Circuzand: turning concrete rubble into high-quality circular building material

Crushed concrete, such as concrete rubble sand, was traditionally considered waste. It was stockpiled and used primarily for low-grade applications. “It doesn’t have to be that way,” thought Hein Gartsen. He developed a method to reuse concrete rubble sand by mixing it with primary sand.

With Circuzand, Smals stabilises the variable properties of concrete crusher sand through precisely calibrated mixing techniques and varying compositions of primary sand. The result is a high-quality, circular construction material with reliable performance, suitable for applications that previously required only primary sand.

Circuzand perfectly aligns with the ambition to reduce scarcity, reuse residual flows in a high-value manner, and lower the ecological footprint of the construction sector.
