High-quality building materials
Smals, together with partner sand extractors under the name “De Zandkoepel v.o.f.”, works on fairway maintenance from Urk to Den Oever.
Over a length of approximately 19 kilometres, sand is extracted in the IJsselmeer, along the North Holland coast and around the island of De Kreupel. Through these activities, Smals contributes to the safety and accessibility of the fairways, while at the same time sustainably extracting high-quality construction materials.
Previous initiatives and new opportunities
In the past, Smals explored project initiatives in the IJsselmeer area together with other parties that ultimately did not proceed. These earlier experiences, however, form an important basis for new explorations and opportunities. Currently, Smals focuses, in continuation of the existing fairway maintenance, on identifying development opportunities within the IJsselmeer area, such as optimising sand extraction, using new working methods, and combining activities with ecologically responsible restoration.
