The Irish multinational CRH transferred its operations at the Anker Limestone Factory in Kloosterhaar to two family-owned companies: Royal Smals (Cuijk, Netherlands) and Plegt-Vos Bouwgroep (Hengelo, Netherlands). This laid the foundation for the new company Kloosterhaar Bouwgrondstoffen, which has continued the existing sand extraction since January 2022 and is further expanding.

Through this collaboration, we can supply high-quality construction materials while using the knowledge and experience of both companies for sustainable and responsible extraction.

Kloosterhaar Construction Materials supplies sand for housing and infrastructure in the eastern part of Overijssel and the adjacent German area.
Thanks to the proximity of other Smals sand pits in Echten (Drenthe) and just across the border at Wippingen and Kalle, all required sand types can be delivered via short supply routes. This ensures not only a reliable supply but also a low environmental impact.

Sustainability is central at Kloosterhaar. When dredging sand from the approximately 40-hectare water body, the environment, natural values, and surroundings are always taken into account. The area, formed during the Ice Age and covering about 100 hectares, provides sand of excellent quality.

Thanks to the experience of Smals and Plegt-Vos in responsible sand extraction, we guarantee a process that is both efficient for the customer and sustainable for the region.
