A successful ‘Specialists meet Specialists’ meeting on salt marsh restoration took place.
On 24 June, Smals organised this event, bringing together specialists from both the United Kingdom and the Netherlands to exchange knowledge, practical experience, and insights.

A boat trip to the salt marshes in Langstone Harbour gave participants the opportunity to observe the current state of the areas on site.

Salt marshes play a crucial role in coastal protection, provide important habitats for fish, birds, and other wildlife, and contribute to climate resilience. Unfortunately, a large part of these ecosystems is in poor condition, making joint action essential to prevent further degradation.

In the coming period, initiatives will be developed in consultation with the participants, aimed at promoting the restoration and conservation of the salt marshes.

Smals thanks Langstone Harbour, ABPmer, Marinka van Puijenbroek (Wageningen University & Research), Robert W. Pol (Van Aalsburg BV), and all attendees for their contribution and commitment to this important project.
