On the banks of the River Dart, near the coastal town of Dartmouth, the historic Noss on Dart Harbour has been transformed by owner Premier Marinas into a state-of-the-art, multifunctional marina.
For this major redevelopment, Smals deployed its full dredging expertise to deepen, clean and prepare the harbour for the new facilities.
Smals was tasked with carefully removing the sediment at the pontoons and dewatering it on site. Using our 10" cutter suction dredger Phoenix, hundreds of metres of pipeline, and large Baleen dewatering bags on specially constructed depots, we carried out these operations in a highly sensitive ecological area. By working precisely, positioning temporary infrastructure smartly, and minimising disturbance, the natural environment remained fully protected.
The dewatered sediment was partly reused locally for construction purposes within the marina. This not only reduced the need for new construction materials but also made the overall development more sustainable and efficient.
