In the midst of the expansive Norfolk landscape lies the historic Raynham Hall Estate, where the owner has ambitious plans to develop the park with luxury rental lodges and high-quality nature experiences.
A key part of this development is restoring and deepening the neglected lake, which has suffered from years of silt accumulation and nutrient enrichment, causing algae blooms and reduced water quality.
Together with partner Miles Water Engineering, we designed both the dredging work and the local processing of the nutrient-rich sediment. Due to the location and sensitivity of the area, we chose our compact and manoeuvrable 8" cutter suction dredger, ideal for shallow water and limited accessibility. Thanks to the light equipment and flexible handling, all areas of the lake could be effectively reached.
The silt was dewatered and reused nearby, fully in line with the project’s sustainability ambitions. The result was impressive: the lake was restored to depth, the algae problem was eliminated, natural water sources were revitalised, and various bird species and otters returned to the area. A future-proof foundation for the new recreational landscape around Raynham Hall.
