At Averijhaven in IJmuiden, Smals accelerated the dewatering of contaminated dredged material from the former silt depot.
On behalf of main contractor Van Oord, the finest fraction of silt was treated with flocculants, allowing the material to be dewatered quickly and efficiently.
By deploying a large flocculant unit with the necessary appendages and hoses, the silt could then be safely and carefully loaded into smaller hoppers. This alternative dewatering method prevented overflow and enabled efficient transport of the dredged silt to IJsseloog, while keeping the operation smooth and environmentally responsible.
